PETERSEN MEDIA: Taking part in the 69th Gold Cup Race of Champions, Tanner Carrick got the week off to a great start last Wednesday night as he picked up a third place finish on Wednesday night, and then went quick time on Friday night during his prelim night with the World of Outlaws.
“We had a great run on Wednesday night to kick the week off, and then qualifying quick time with the World of Outlaws on Friday night put us in a great position,” Tanner Carrick said. “Unfortunately, we battled brake issues the rest of the night and it was just too much to overcome, and we were buried on Saturday.”
Checking in with the Sprint Car Challenge Tour on Wednesday night, Carrick got the night underway by timing in second fastest in his qualifying group. Lining up on the front row of his heat race, the Lincoln, CA driver raced his way to the win aboard the CVC/Cemex/Interstate Oil backed No. 83T and locked into the High Sierra Industries Dash.
Finishing fourth in the Dash, Carrick rolled off the starting grid from the outside of the second row for the 35-lap feature event with $6900 up for grabs.
Following an early incident in the ‘A’, Carrick jumped into third as the race came to fruition. On a surface that was plenty fast and didn’t offer a ton of passing, Carrick kept the lead duo of Shane Golobic and Andy Forsberg in his crosshairs.
Keeping pace with them every step of the way, Carrick was unable to get into the Top-Two as he capped Wednesday off with a third-place run.
Spectating the action on Thursday night, Friday night was Carrick’s turn to hit the track with the World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car Series for his Gold Cup qualifying night.
Earning quick time honors in qualifying time trials, Carrick lined up in the third row of his heat race with the format inverting heat races by six based on qualifying times.
Working his way up to a third-place finish, Carrick was locked into the eighth starting spot for the 30-lap preliminary night ‘A’ Main.
In the feature, Carrick began battling brake issues on a track that was slick, and it gave him fits as he slowly lost spots. Slipping back to a 16th place finish, Carrick had his work cut out of him on Saturday night, as he was in the third row of a heat race.
Finishing ninth in his heat, Carrick moved into the “C”, where he was able to finish fourth and transfer into the B.
Lining up 17th in the semi, Carrick was unable to make a run through the field as he ended up finishing 17th, bringing his Gold Cup to an end.
“Saturday night we were just too far back, and we could not catch a single break,” Carrick added. “I feel bad for Clark and everyone who helps on this thing, because they work too hard to not make the feature in one our biggest races of the year. We do have a ton of speed, and I am looking forward to this Saturday’s race at Placerville Speedway.”
Tanner Carrick would like to thank CVC, Cemex, Interstate Oil, Conti, Harris and Sloan, Hanson Truss, Eddie’s Lincoln Auto Body, Simpson Strong-Tie, A&A Concrete Supply, Kaeding Performance, and Arai for their continued support.
BY THE NUMBERS: Starts: 40, Wins: 3, Top 5’s: 18, Top 10’s: 24
