PETERSEN MEDIA: Friday night, Tanner Carrick recorded another Top-Five at Ocean Speedway as he continues to show early season strength at the track where he sits as the current Points Leader after four events.
“Ocean Speedway has been really good to us this year, and I just didn’t get going soon enough to give our team a chance at another win,” Carrick said. “Another top-five at the track is great, and it is pretty cool to lead the track championship point standings thus far.”
With 28 cars checked in on Friday night, Carrick would time the CVC/Cemex/Interstate Oil backed No. 83T machine 13thfastest in qualifying time trials. While it wasn’t quite the speed he had hoped to showcase, he did make the inversion and lined up on the front row his heat race.
From his front row starting position, Carrick was able to get the job done as he powered his way to a convincing win and put himself safely in both the feature as well as the Ocean Sprints Dash.
Carrick’s fourth place finish in the six-lap Dash would then place him in the second row of the 30-lap feature event on another well-prepared Ocean Speedway surface.
When the feature event went green, Carrick quickly jumped into the third position as he chased after the lead duo of Shane Golobic and Justin Sanders who duked it out just ahead of him.
Running third for the opening 10-laps, Carrick would fall back to fourth as Corey Day came alive using the bottom groove as Carrick hammered the Ocean Speedway cushion.
As the leaders all ran hard in traffic, Carrick would challenge for position on the podium as he got under Justin Sanders on a pair of occasions late in the race.
With traffic slowing his challenges as he was forced to change lines, he would be unable to get by his competitor.
When the 30-lapper came to an end, Carrick would close the night out with a fourth-place finish.
“We got rolling in traffic, but things just didn’t play our in our favor,” Carrick added. “It was another good night, and I am looking forward to getting back to Ocean on Friday night before Merced with the SCCT on Saturday.”
Tanner Carrick would like to thank CVC, Cemex, Interstate Oil, Conti, Harris and Sloan, Emerald, Timberworks Construction, Eddie’s Lincoln Auto Body, Kaeding Performance, and Arai for their continued support.
