PETERSEN MEDIA: Involved in an opening lap tangle on Saturday night at Placerville Speedway, Tanner Carrick would do a sensational job of recovering as he battled back to pocket a ninth place finish after restarting 19th on the slick bullring.
“We had a ton of speed, and I think that showed as we came forward from the back after an opening lap incident,” Tanner Carrick said. “It got a little tricky to pass on, but overall happy with the moves we made.”
Back in California for a second consecutive week racing the CVC/Cemex/Interstate Oil backed No. 83T entry, the Lincoln, CA driver would get Saturday night kicked off by timing in sixth quickest amongst the 32 cars checked into the pit area.
Having a tough go in his heat race on an extremely slick surface that was offered up on a day that started with substantial heat before thunderheads rolled in and brought rainfall later in the night, Carrick would be forced into the ‘B’ Main.
Picking up the win, Carrick advanced into the feature event where he would get his qualifying time back and take the green flag from the 10th starting position. Getting out of shape in turns three and four on the opening lap, Carrick would be forced to restart from 19th for the 25-lap affair.
Working up into 16th by the third lap, Carrick would use a lap four restart to propel himself every further forward as he took over the 11th spot. As the race got into a nice green flag run, Carrick would move into 9th by the 10th lap, as he continued to battle for position inside the Top-10.
Getting up as high as seventh, just past the race’s halfway point, Carrick would slip back to ninth as the track continued to ‘blow off’. Keeping his machine inside the Top-10, Carrick would fall back to 10th before using a late restart to take ninth coming to the checkered.
“I felt pretty good coming from the ‘B’, things just didn’t go our way to start the feature,” Carrick added. “Got going decent from the tail of the field, and came home with a ninth place finish. Good couple of weeks back home, and now looking forward to Midget week.”
Tanner Carrick would like to thank CVC, Cemex, Interstate Oil, Conti, Harris and Sloan, Emerald, Timberworks Construction, Arai, and Spike Chassis for their support.
2019 BY THE NUMBERS: Starts: 10, Wins: 1, Top 5’s: 1, Top 10’s: 3
