Carrick Records Fourth and Ninth Place Finishes During Reunion with Keith Kunz Motorsports

PETERSEN MEDIA: As the USAC National Midget Series invaded the West coast, Tanner Carrick made his return to Keith Kunz Motorsports for the swing and returned to form as he ran ninth on Friday night before finishing fourth during Saturday’s Western World finale.

“For it being my first time back in a Midget since February, I was really happy with how things felt, and how I competed,” Tanner Carrick said. “The guys did a great job of giving me a strong car, and I just have to clean up a few things on my end.”

Friday night’s opener got underway with Carrick timing the KKM backed No. 97K entry in 13th fastest in qualifying time trials amongst the 24 cars in attendance.

Racing to a win in heat race action, the Lincoln, CA driver would take the green flag from the seventh starting position. Working around the Top-Five during most of Friday night’s feature event, Carrick would make a couple of mistakes late that saw him slip back and lose track position.

Able to keep his mount inside the Top-10, Carrick would take the checkered flag with a ninth-place finish.

Back in action on Saturday night looking to make some improvements after shaking off some rust on Friday, Carrick would get off to an even better start as he timed in seventh fastest in qualifying time trials.

Racing a second-place finish in his heat race, Carrick would find himself on the pole of the Western World Championships feature event. Lining up alongside Chris Windom, Carrick would see the USAC Midget Series Championship contender get the jump as he would battle with the likes of Zach Daum, and Cannon McIntosh as he slipped back to fourth.

With a strong car underneath, him, Carrick admitted to making some self-inflicted mistakes as he chased after his competitors. Though he was unable to find his way onto the Saturday night podium, Carrick capped the weekend off with a fourth-place finish.

“Big thanks to all the KKM guys for working hard, and getting me up to speed really quickly,” Carrick said. “I’d also like to send my best to my KKM teammate Daison Pursley who is recovering from a pretty brutal wreck.”

Tanner Carrick would like to thank CVC, Cemex, Interstate Oil, Conti, Harris and Sloan, Emerald, Timberworks Construction, Kaeding Performance, and Arai for their continued support.

BY THE NUMBERS: Starts: 61, Wins: 7, Top 5’s: 27, Top 10’s: 37

ON TAP: Carrick will get back to action on Tuesday in Bakersfield, CA before the three-night Hangtown 100 in Placerville, CA going green on Thursday night.
